Morningside Park and Alex Haley Square

Published by richd at 6:24 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

knoxville_haley_heritage2.jpgKnoxville is a great place for outdoor activities. In east Knoxville, residents and visitors alike can find the beautiful Morningside Park. Morningside Park encompasses twenty-three beautiful acres and is adjacent to Alex Haley Square.

The park has a wonderful playground that was constructed by the local community with the backing of Kimberly Clarke Corporation. There is also a 16-hole disc golf course, paved fitness and walking trails.

The adjacent Alex Haley Square honors the Pulitzer Prize winning author and former Knoxville resident Alex Haley. There is a thirteen foot bronze sculpture of this prominent figure that dominates the square. The sculpture weighs approximately 4,200 pounds and was dedicated during Black History Month in 1998.

When you need a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life, why not relax in Morningside Park and in the shadow of a towering American icon.
